Okavango Delta

Okavango Delta

Welcome to one of Africa’s most iconic landscapes. The Okavango Delta is one of the most exclusive wilderness destinations in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the backdrop to wild Africa's grand spectacle, presenting unparalleled wilderness experiences in a serene inland delta unlike anywhere else on Earth. A journey to the Okavango Delta – deep inside Africa's pristine interior – is like no other, encompassing vast wetlands and expansive drylands. Visitors traverse the Delta's meandering waterways, passing palm- and papyrus-fringed islands, thick woodland, resplendent with lush vegetation, and teeming with rich wildlife.

There is something elemental about the Okavango Delta – the rising and falling of its waters, the daily drama of its wildlife encounters, its soundtrack of lions roaring, leopard barks the crazy laughter of hyenas, the mysteries concealed by its papyrus reeds swaying gently in the evening breeze.

The stirring counterpoint to the Kalahari Desert that consumes so much of Botswana is the Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta can vary in size from 15 000 square kilometres during drier periods to a staggering 22 000 sq. km during wetter periods.

Travelling to the Okavango Delta will ensure that you’ll take home so many experiences of a lifetime and the reason for this is fairly simple: this is one of the most extraordinary places in Africa, which rightfully deserves to be high on every traveller’s bucket-list.

At a glance

Why you should visit

A miracle of nature in the heart of the Kalahari, the Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most iconic and biodiverse ecosystems. This vast inland delta floods seasonally, creating a lush, ever-changing mosaic of channels, lagoons, islands, and floodplains. It’s a haven for wildlife: elephants, buffalo, hippos, and antelope thrive here, alongside predators like lions, leopards, and wild dogs. The Delta’s unique water-based safari experience — by mokoro or boat — offers an intimate perspective on this UNESCO World Heritage Site’s extraordinary beauty and stillness.

Our favourite time to visit

From June to October, the annual flood reaches its peak, drawing wildlife to the delta’s life-giving waters. This is the best time for both land and water-based safaris, with excellent game viewing, birdlife, and dramatic landscapes — a rare chance to witness nature in perfect balance.
